The King’s Warriors closed out a great winter futsal season at Old School Sports in Shady Spring on Saturday, January 25.
The grade school team didn’t notch a win, but they were much younger than the other teams in their division and kept improving. The “Little Warriors’ played a double header, losing 8-1 and 5-1. The last game was their best showing of the season. Adalee and Chloe Blevins scored for the Warriors. In addition to the Blevins sisters, other team members included Johnny Wheeler, Mason Tooze, Isabella Trout, Ayden McNicholas, Hudson Jones, and Andrew Helmick. The King’s Warriors Youth Development League will kick off the spring season on Tuesday, March 17.
The D2 team finished strong with a close match against the Shady Spring Rams. The Warriors eked out a 6-5 win to finish 3-1-2 for the season. Isaac Beckett scored 2 goals, while Hannah Willis, Aaron Smith, Sydney Harper, and Chance Blevins all scored 1. Other team members included Gracie Tooze and goal keeper Jonah Blevins. Hannah Willis was the King’s Warriors D2 leading scorer for the season with 11 goals.
The King’s Warriors varsity D1 team finished the season where they started – on top. The Warriors defeated a good Pikeview team 12-5. Eli Blevins was on fire, scoring 5 goals. Caleb Okes and Andrew Smith both notched hat tricks, and Chance Blevins added 1. The win completed the King’s Warriors third straight undefeated season! That’s quite an accomplishment. Along with the final game’s scorers, other team members included Isaac Beckett, Jonah Blevins, and goal keeper Aaron Smith.
The King’s Warriors varsity team now turn their attention to the spring season. Their first match is against Craig County High School, New Castle, VA, on Saturday, March 14.
