The varsity club team opened up against Summit Christian Academy (formerly Mercer Christian). The team was hopeful after Clay Allen scored just 2 minutes into the game. But it was all Summit from there on as they coasted to a 7-1 win. The King’s Warriors got back on track the following week with a great 4-3 win against Dayspring Christian Academy. The season was very erratic, with an outstanding 4-3 win against Mt. Mission (Clay Allen had a hat trick, and J.T. Thomas scored on a fabulous free kick), while the team suffered losses that should have been wins as well. They finished with a record of 11-10-2.
This included the 4th Annual Bella Vista Futbol Tournament, played on October 25 and 26 at Camp Summers 4-H Camp in Forest Hill. This was the first time it was conducted as an overnight, residential, multi-day event. Teams included Boys Home of Virginia, Dayspring Christian Academy (Blacksburg, VA), and James River Eagles Home School Foundation (Richmond, VA), as well as the King’s Warriors. While the King’s Warriors did not notch a win, they were terrific hosts. James River took home the banner, and Day Spring came in second. Andrew Helmick and Adalee Blevins represented the King’s Warriors on the All Tournament Team.
The Adult team played an abbreviated season, finishing 2-2. They split with Appalachian Bible College, lost a well played match to Bluefield University reserve team, and defeated Fairhaven Baptist College (played at ABC) 5-2.
The King’s Warriors hope to build on lessons learned during this season. They will take a month off before embarking on the winter campaign after Thanksgiving.
