Spring, 2021, Summary

Updated: Oct 19, 2021

The COVID pandemic continued to take its toll on soccer, greatly diminishing the number of games the King’s Warriors Soccer Club could schedule. They played Covington Boys Home four times. They beat us soundly the first two matches by identical scores of 7-2. We adjusted our defense, and then tied them 1-1, and finally beat them 2-1. We played Beckley Adult Soccer Club twice, tying them 2-2, then losing badly in a 5-0 shutout. We also lost to Mt. Mission School 6-5.

The King’s Warriors were definitely playing above themselves this season, but it prepared them for the end-of-season Ripley Invitational Soccer tournament in early June. The Warriors swept the tournament against all teams, winning 4-0, 4-0, 5-1, then 2-0 in the championship game. That also gave us a 5-4-2 winning record for the season.

Other spring highlights for the King’s Warriors included Andrew Smith, Ailena Bezek, and Keatley Michael being named to NACA’s Academic All-Stars list for 2021. Ailena, Keatley, and Angel Taylor, our three graduating female athletes, were all signed by the WVU-Tech Women’s Soccer program.

It was a very enjoyable season, and we look forward to the fall.
